The Priory Hospital Hayes Grove is a 45-bed acute psychiatric hospital offering a wide range of inpatient, outpatient, day patient and therapy services.

Acute psychiatric service

The acute psychiatric service is provided on an inpatient basis offering residential nursing care and intensive therapy for patients aged 18 years and over. Accommodation is provided on the Lower Court Ward which offers patients a calm and restful environment. Treatment is provided by our consultant-led clinical teams. All patients are allocated a primary nurse. Access to a social worker can be made on request. The psychiatric service treats a number of conditions including severe depression, anxiety, stress, bipolar disorder and acute phobias.

Addiction treatment programme

Programmes are residential or delivered on an outpatient basis, depending on the patient's individual circumstances.   

The programmes are based on the 12-step abstinence model and provide treatment for a wide range of substance and behavioural dependencies including alchohol, drugs, gambling, shopping, sex, food, computer use, exercise, etc.  Programmes are also available to treat the more complex and increasingly common conditions such as poly-addictions or dual diagnosis.  

The service includes:

  • Free initial assessment with a qualified addictions therapist
  • Detoxification programme, carried out under medical supervision to ease the symptons of withdrawal
  • Individual and group therapy / counselling
  • Educational lectures, workshops and seminars designed to inform the patient of the nature of addiction and to facilitate strategies for recovery
  • Holistic activities like meditation and complementary therapies
  • Family participation programme
  • Free weekly 12 month aftercare programme

Adolescent eating disorder service

The Chrysalis Centre at the Priory Hospital Hayes Grove is a specialist eating disorder unit dedicated to treating adolescent patients aged 13 to 18 in a secure eight-bed inpatient environment which incorporates ensuite bedrooms, kitchen and dining rooms, a school room with educational support and a family therapy room.

Adult eating disorder service

This service is for those who are suffering from an eating disorder and require quick access to our inpatient and day care services. We treat people who are in the acute phase of an eating disorder, including anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating and morbid obesity.

Therapy services

The Cedar Therapy Centre provides counselling and several therapeutic interventions on a one-to-one or group basis. Patients may attend for a full day, half day or sessional basis.

Outpatient services are available from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, allowing patients to see their psychiatrist or therapist at a convenient time.

Assessment and treatment:

Every patient referred to the service is offered an assessment by a professional who will arrange and oversee their therapy programme.  Progress is monitored and reviewed on a regular basis.

  • Cognitive analytic therapy (CAT)
  • Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)
  • Existential psychotherapy
  • Rational emotive behaviour therapy (REBT)
  • Transactional analysis (TA)
  • Psychosomatic disorders

We offer a unique service for patients with medically unexplained symptoms, sometimes known as psychosomatic disorders. Symptoms include atypical abdominal pain, non-cardiac chest pain, headaches and facial pain, muscular pain, lower back pain, pelvic pain, chronic fatigue (ME), non-ulcerous dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, palpitations, dizziness, tinnitus, dysphonia, chronic viral infections and non-allergy based food intolerances. Treatment is provided over a two-week inpatient stay that incorporates a specific individualised treatment programme followed by an eight to 10 week day care programme involving two-half days per week.

Funding

The hospital is recognised by all major private medical insurers. It is advised that patients check their individual level of cover (and / or exclusions) with their insurers. Alternatively, patients may fund themselves; all major credit cards are accepted.

Referrals of NHS funded patients can be accepted where the patient's Health Trust agrees to fund treatment.

Facilities

Patients have their own comfortable en-suite rooms with television and are encouraged to have their meals in the main dining room.  Each ward has its own male and female lounge.   There is access to tranquil gardens within the hospital grounds and nearby local shops.
